About HUE

HUE is a color game with exactly one rule. A cube sits at the bottom of the screen, colored tiles fall towards it, and the matching face has to be pointing up when each one lands.

You start with three lives and three colors. Miss a tile and you lose a life and your streak; land eight and a fourth color joins the rotation, which is the moment most runs start going wrong — the cube you had memorised now has another face on it. Every match also nudges the tempo up, from a comfortable opening pace toward roughly three times that speed, with the gap between tiles shrinking the whole way.

About one tile in eight arrives as a breather: a wildcard that matches whichever face happens to be up. Breathers are the built-in mercy in an otherwise unforgiving game, and learning to spot one early — and use the free beat to line up the tile behind it — is worth more than any amount of raw reaction speed.

The whole thing is deliberately quiet. No countdown, no score multiplier screaming at you, just three dots at the top of the screen and a rhythm you either hold or lose. Scores go to a global leaderboard, and the bar on the menu shows exactly what you need to crack the top ten.

How to match colors in HUE

  1. Watch the color of the tile falling towards the cube.
  2. Tap or click the left or right side of the screen to turn the cube one face at a time.
  3. Get the matching color on top before the tile lands. A miss costs one of your three lives and resets your streak.
  4. Look for the breather tile — roughly one in eight — which matches whatever face is already up and costs you nothing.
  5. Survive eight matches and a fourth color joins the rotation, making every turn longer to plan.
  6. Keep going as the tiles accelerate toward roughly triple the opening speed, then submit a top-ten score to the leaderboard.

HUE tips — holding a long streak

  • Play the next tile, not the falling one. If you are already lined up for the tile behind it, the speed increase stops mattering.
  • Count turns instead of recognising colors. Knowing a face is two taps to the left is faster to act on than identifying the color and then working out which way to go.
  • Spend breather tiles on setup. They match whatever is already up, so the beat they buy you is free planning time for the tile after — that is where long streaks come from.
  • When you lose the rhythm, survive one tile cleanly rather than trying to catch up. Panicked double-taps are what turn one lost life into three.

If you are looking for something calm

Most games that call themselves relaxing are just slow. HUE is quiet in a different way: there is no countdown timer, no combo meter shouting at you, no failure animation and no music that escalates. Three dots at the top of the screen and a rhythm you either hold or lose.

It still asks something of you — the tempo climbs steadily and a missed tile costs a life — but the pressure comes from the pace rather than from the interface. If you want a colour game to put on for ten minutes without being shouted at, that is what this is.

HUE questions, answered

How many lives do you get in HUE?

Three, shown as dots at the top of the screen. Every tile that lands on the wrong face costs one and resets your streak to zero. Lose all three and the session ends — there are no continues, extra lives or revives to earn.

What is the breather tile?

A wildcard that matches whichever face is already on top, so it can never cost you a life. Roughly one tile in eight is a breather. The smart use is not relief but setup — the free beat is a chance to start turning toward the tile behind it.

How does the streak work?

Your streak counts consecutive successful matches and resets to zero the moment you miss one. Your longest streak of the session is reported at the end alongside your score, which makes it the stat to chase once your raw score has plateaued.

How fast do the tiles speed up?

Continuously. Every successful match increases the fall speed slightly and shortens the gap before the next tile, climbing from a gentle opening pace to roughly three times that by the late game. There are no levels — the pressure just rises until you miss.

When does the fourth color appear?

After eight successful matches. The game opens with three colors on rotation and adds the fourth once you have proved you can handle three, which is where most runs break — a face you had not been tracking is suddenly in play and every turn takes longer to plan.

Is HUE a good game to relax with?

It is built to be. There is no countdown, no score multiplier and no punishing failure screen — just three lives and a tempo that climbs gently. The difficulty comes from the pace rather than from pressure in the interface, which is what makes it read as calm.
